Sunday Poem

AMMONITE
Jeweller’s saw bisects the whorl.
Heart surgery. Chambers crack.
I am going sane all the sudden.
Arteries are bright with oxygen
saw-teeth coax open the ammonitella
collarbones butterfly
valves unite as phragmocones
waves of disconcerting bliss
crystal, fossil, this, now. Open.
